Varinder Walia has also been the Associate Editor of Punjab Government's English magazine 'Advancement'. It was published in Punjabi and Hindi under the name 'Jagriti'. Now it is online only.
ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਰਸਾਲੇ 'ਐਡਵਾਂਸਮੈਂਟ' ਦੇ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਟ ਐਡੀਟਰ ਵੀ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ 'ਚ ਇਹ 'ਜਾਗ੍ਰਿਤੀ' ਦੇ ਨਾਂਅ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆੱਨਲਾਈਨ ਹੈ।

ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਜਦੋਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਕੌਰਸਪੌਂਡੈਂਟ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਤਦ ਐਡੀਟਰ–ਇਨ–ਚੀਫ਼ ਐੱਚ.ਕੇ. ਦੂਆ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਲਗਨ, ਸੁਹਿਰਦਤਾ, ਕਾਰਜ–ਸ਼ੈਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਿੰਗ 'ਚ ਐਕਸਕਲੂਸਿਵਨੈੱਸ ਤੋਂ ਡਾਢੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਸਨ। ਇਸੇ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਹੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ 1 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ, 2006 ਤੋਂ ਦੋਹਰੇ ਇੰਕ੍ਰੀਮੈਂਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਨ।

The fourth summit of the G-20 countries was held on June 26 and 27, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Varinder Walia also went to Canada with the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Raj Chengappa, the then Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune happily gave approval to Varinder Walia to go abroad with the Government delegation.
ਜੀ–20 ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਚੌਥਾ ਸਿਖ਼ਰ ਸੰਮੇਲਨ 26 ਅਤੇ 27 ਜੂਨ, 2010 ਨੂੰ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਸੂਬੇ ਉਨਟਾਰੀਓ 'ਚ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਵੀ ਉਦੋਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਡਾ. ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਦਿ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ ਦੇ ਤਤਕਾਲੀਨ ਐਡੀਟਰ–ਇਨ–ਚੀਫ਼ ਰਾਜ ਚੇਂਗੱਪਾ ਨੇ ਵਰਿੰਦਰ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ–ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਵਫ਼ਦ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸੀ।
